Grapes & Plums

DSCN4897

I bought some of the plums pictured above and they were outstanding.

I’m reminded of the William Carlos Williams poem:

This Is Just To Say

BY WILLIAM CARLOS WILLIAMS

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox
and which
you were probably
saving
for breakfast
Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

To make it easy for others to check out your photos, title your blog post “Weekly Photo Challenge: (theme of the week)” and be sure to use the “postaday″ tag. 3. This woman sells used clothes on a street near campus. She’s part of the neighborhood and though she clearly is needy, there’s nothing pathetic about her. She tends to her business and somehow survives. She’s got drive and dignity.

Last week I did give her a bag full of old clothes to add to her inventory. As an outsider, I don’t feel I should ask her story. It seems insensitive to ask, even if I could, for her to give a stranger an account of how she wound up here, scraping by. I do wonder though.

A new vegetarian restaurant in Jinan. I’ll have to check it out when I’m downtown.

Mooncakes

DSCN4861

Today we’re celebrating the Mid-Autumn festival and so that means people exchange and eat mooncakes. Most aren’t my cup of tea, but I did like the one’s filled with nuts and fruit. Then I learned that one mooncake might contain 1000 calories! No more mooncakes for me. They aren’t that good.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Adventure

DSCN4760

The U.S. army or Marines once had an ad campaign more or less saying “This is not a job it’s an adventure.” As our first year students march and shout, I’m glad I don’t have to partake of this adventure. I was surprised to hear them on Saturday of a long weekend at 6:45 am.

Attracting Attention

This dancer was at Daming Lake. People were gaping at her so I don’t think I was the only one who didn’t fully get her act. It’s fun to see something different on my Thursday walk.
