Weekly Photo Challenge: Near and Far

University Freshmen Marching

On the one hand, these marching freshmen are near. They’re right on campus close to my apartment and workplace. Yet the idea of two weeks of mandatory military marching for all university students is just so far from my way of thinking. The poor kids have to march from 6 am till late at night. There are breaks, but it’s hours of marching. Girls march in their own units.
